This master's thesis discusses two public-key cryptosystems based on discrete logarithm problem - elliptic curve cryptosystem and recently invented XTR cryptosystem. As concerned cryptographic applications, these cryptosystems led to reasonable key-length and computational savings without compromising security.

The aim of this thesis is implementation and comparison of these public-key cryptosystems. This thesis also presents mathematical basis needed to understand public-key cryptosystems, and namely the discrete logarithm problem. Various aspects of elliptic curve public-key cryptography are covered. Especially those that concern security and implementation.
